We all know of the fact that water alone can provide a major number of health benefits. Infused water, on the other hand is the extension of these benefits. Contrary to the popular belief, keeping your body hydrated is equally important in all round the year. Combining the health benefits of fruits and vegetables with water can save your body from falling prey to dehydration. Lime water is a prime example of the same.
The health benefits vary as per the fruits and vegetables involved in the infusion. Lemon, for instance is rich in vitamin C. It provides nutritive benefits to the skin and is good for keeping the metabolism at a stable rate, not to forget the immunity properties that it brings along. Ingredients like citrus fruits, melons, berries, ginger and mint make great for infusion with detoxifying benefits. To get the complete benefit of the fruits that are being used, it’s always a good idea to actually consume the fruit.
The human body is made up of 60% water. Absence of this percentage (dehydration) kicks several problems for the body. The blood circulation (affecting the skin most visibly) and liver and kidney functioning (affecting the digestion), are the first to show signs of dehydration. In other word the detoxifying that these waters bring about is just efficient functioning of your body and its systems. It all adds up to a simple truth- drinking infused/tastier water leads to drinking more water.
Another good reason for replacing the regular sugar infused sodas with a fresh glass of detox water is for avoiding bad breath. As surprising as it sounds, detox water can help you get rid of toxins, waste and free radicals, that build up the bad breath. At first you might feel it worsen, it’s only after a couple of days that you would start to notice an actual change.
The markets have a huge variety of water chemically infused with different ingredients. However, it is always a better idea to let go of the preservatives and consume it as fresh as you can in the comfort of your own home. Compromising on quality is definitely not worth the splurge.
The recipe of making the water stays the same throughout, with just a variation of different ingredients. As per good combinations, sliced ginger and sliced lemon, along with basil or mint leaves is good for improving metabolism when consumed regularly. Adding cucumber slices is optional but beneficial. Making it is as simple as filling up a pitcher with water, adding the ingredients and letting it refrigerate and infuse overnight. The water is ready to be sipped throughout the day. Making and consuming the entire pitcher of water twice in a week is sufficient.
There are several other combinations that one could try:
- Strawberry, basil and lemon
- Honeydew, cucumber and mint
- Blackberries, orange and ginger
- Blueberry, lemon and rosemary
- Pineapple, coconut and lime
- Watermelon, kiwi and lime
These combinations can go on and on and depend on personal taste. However, the important fact to remember is to keep not more than four ingredients. The first two ingredients could be either melons or berries, the third ingredient should be either citrus or leafy (like basil and mint leaves), the forth ingredient is optional and could be added for flavour (ginger).
